I am an accidental engineer who left circuits behind for a passion for sports. My inquisitive mind never rests until I know what happened on the pitch. This curiosity led me to write and blog about some of the most inspiring and untold stories of athletes. I love writing about sports. Then, I became curious about how blogging platforms work and how one can reach such a large audience anywhere in the world. That’s when I read about Digital Marketing, understanding how big brands did marketing and helped customers get what they want. I was fascinated by marketing campaigns and how they help businesses gain more visibility. That’s exactly when I decided to pursue digital marketing and start with SEO. My curiosity about other forms of marketing—social media, Facebook ads, etc.—was satisfied by creating social media accounts about sports, where I started making videos and content about cricket, football, and tennis. Back in high school, I remember myself as a nerdy guy, wearing glasses and solving math problems, understanding chemistry reactions, acing physics, and discovering how a stone can exit Earth’s orbit and stay stationary in outer space. I loved it all. I was lucky enough to learn the concepts from the best professors from different parts of India. I miss them and my mates so much. We were a bunch of nerdy, smart, and mountain-moving people. To this day, some are in IITs, some have changed fields, some are into product management, some have started their own start-ups, and I feel so happy for them.
My interest in science drove me to pursue engineering. However, I was never sure about which type of engineering to pursue. I was interested in everything. Eventually, I chose Electrical Engineering, thinking I had scored 96 in physics in the third semester, and it was all about circuits, which I loved solving. At that point, I thought I had no one to guide me. I believe it’s just you who knows the answer, and sometimes you might not know the answer, but eventually, you will figure it out. Keep listening to your heart. Fast-forward to my first year, and I had lost all interest in studies. The course structure and everything was boring. I don’t know why I started hating what I had opted for. I was still trying to make it happen. On the other side, I got so much time for myself and my hobbies.
That’s when I started following my hobbies. I followed a lot of sports. I loved playing the game and following it as well. That’s when I got the idea to write about my favorite sports and broadcast it on WhatsApp. Later that day, one of my professors suggested I write a blog online and send a link to people. That was the first time I heard about blogging, websites, and hosting!x
I started writing sports blogs, creating videos, and posting them on social media platforms. I was active on Twitter, writing small pieces about players on their birthdays. I used to get their likes, reposts, and comments as rewards.
Post-college, I had to earn my bread and butter. I had to be up on my feet. It took a while, but then I thought, let’s do it. I didn’t want to be an engineering trainee. Let’s start with Digital Marketing. With the knowledge of how blogs work, I thought, let’s start with SEO and see how it goes. On the other hand, I followed my hobby of other forms of marketing via @VSPORTS.
I started working as an SEO Executive at WebIndia INC. I learned so much there. With the responsibility to handle end-to-end SEO of certain projects and also having some development opportunities, I got the platform to succeed and research. That’s why I realized my number one skills were curiosity and research. It helped me later to identify and reverse-engineer why traffic went down, auditing and reporting. Over my time at WebIndia, I got a chance to work on local, regional, e-commerce, and national SEO campaigns for businesses in different sectors.
I then moved to Adit, the best dental SaaS company. I got a chance to work on creating their own local ranking tool, essentially their own BrightLocal. That’s when I truly understood how local search works. That experience indeed shaped my career. I was working as an SEO Account Manager on paper, but I also worked on creating products such as the Adit Ranking Tool. I also got my hands on creating testing environments and identifying ranking factors in local search, eventually proving them by using case studies.
Eventually, I reached a stage where I wanted to move into sales, combining SEO with sales. I got the perfect opportunity at E2M Solutions to put my 5 years of hands-on SEO work, a bit of development, and a bit of product management into sales. I now help agency owners get what they need. I love being an SEO Consultant to agency owners based in the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Ireland, and many other places.
